French interior and upholstery by Sophie Bailly

Hepplewhite Chair

George Hepplewhite is one of the most famous english cabinetmaker of the 18th century. Hepplewhite’s style and reputation rest on his Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guide (1788), which contains nearly 300 designs for furniture and other furnishings. One characteristic of his chairs is the shield back ornament.
Here is a mahogany chair that we picked up from the curb (again!)… should go to Rachel’s workspace corner… redesigned with a more contemporary touch, which doesn’t mean too “girly”… My choice : Martha Stewart metallic paint, solid grey linen from Calico Corners and purple-pink HGVT trimming.
